We have recently learned that Mardi Gras actually originated in Alabama. Mardi Gras, the celebration of "sin" prior to the period of Lent, is a period of time from New Year's day until Ash Wednesday. According to custom, you should eat, drink and have as much sex as possible before giving up all sinful activities in honor of Christ, who gave it all up for you, many thousands of years ago. The "facts" regarding this period are hard to get. Maybe I should go to church to get them straight. Anyway, Mardi Gras is a time for fun, a release of inhibitions without guilt, colorful costumes floats, parades and of course, beads.
To this I got the response, "Hahahahah!"
